ATP activation
Succinic acid activates the Krebs cycle and increases cellular energy (ATP) availability in fatigued and hypoxic skin cells.
Oedema & dark circles
Particularly effective for periorbital oedema, under-eye circles and dull complexion — addresses metabolic root causes, not just symptoms.
Antioxidant protection
Neutralises free radicals and protects mitochondria from oxidative stress — fundamental protection against accelerated skin ageing.
What is NITHYA S-Line Shield?
NITHYA S-Line Shield is a specialist biorevitalising mesotherapy preparation produced by Euroresearch Srl (Milan, Italy) — the same manufacturer behind the acclaimed NITHYA Type I Collagen line. The product combines two active substances with complementary mechanisms of action: succinic acid (sodium succinate) — a metabolic activator of cellular energy — and non-cross-linked high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid — providing hydration and an optimal environment for fibroblasts.
Unlike classic mesotherapy preparations based solely on hydration (HA) or vitamins (multivitamin cocktails), S-Line Shield acts at the level of cellular metabolism — addressing the energetic root causes of tired, grey and oedematous skin, not just its external symptoms.
Succinic acid – mechanism of metabolic action
Succinic acid (dicarboxylic acid, C₄H₆O₄) in the form of sodium succinate is an endogenous substance — naturally produced by human cell mitochondria as a key metabolite of the Krebs cycle. When supplied externally via intradermal mesotherapy, it acts as direct metabolic fuel for skin cells:
- Activation of succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) — succinate activates the SDH enzyme in the electron transport chain in mitochondria, accelerating ATP production and restoring cells' capacity for aerobic (oxidative) work.
- Restoration of aerobic metabolism — hypoxic skin (e.g. in the eye area, where blood vessels are small and microcirculation restricted) switches to anaerobic metabolism, accumulating lactate and inflammatory products. Succinate redirects cells back to the aerobic pathway, reducing inflammation and oedema.
- Free radical neutralisation — succinic acid has strong antioxidant properties, protecting cell membranes, mitochondrial DNA and structural proteins from oxidative stress (UV radiation, pollution, smoking, stress).
- Improved ion transport — regulates the electrolyte balance of cell membranes, improving ion channel function and cell turgor.
- Fibroblast stimulation — energetically "charged" fibroblasts produce more collagen and elastin. Succinic acid supplies them with the fuel for anabolic activity.
The Krebs cycle and ATP production – the science explained
The Krebs cycle (tricarboxylic acid cycle, TCA) is the fundamental metabolic pathway of every living cell — a series of reactions in mitochondria whose outcome is the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the cell's "energy currency". Succinic acid is one of eight key metabolites in this cycle. When the skin ages or is exposed to oxidative stress, mitochondrial activity declines — cells produce less ATP and have less energy for repair and structural protein synthesis. Supplying succinate intradermally works like a "mitochondrial restart" — it bypasses earlier cycle stages and feeds directly into the electron transport chain, immediately increasing cellular energy availability.
Hyaluronic acid – hydration and environment for fibroblasts
- Deep intradermal hydration — HA binds water up to approx. 1,000 times its own weight, immediately improving hydration, turgor and skin elasticity.
- ECM environment rebuilding — creates the optimal "hydration scaffold" for fibroblasts energetically boosted by succinic acid to work at full capacity.
- Anti-oedema action — through regulation of osmotic balance and sealing of the tissue barrier, HA supports oedema reduction, particularly around the eyes.
Synergy of succinic acid and HA
Succinic acid provides the energy (ATP) and activates cells for repair work. HA provides the hydration and rebuilds the extracellular matrix in which these repair processes take place. Together: cells have both the energy and the environment for intensive regeneration — faster and deeper results than from single-component preparations.
Why is S-Line Shield particularly effective around the eyes?
The periorbital area has a unique anatomical character — the skin here is the thinnest in the entire body (~0.5 mm), blood vessels are very small and prone to congestion, and microcirculation is easily disrupted by stress, lack of sleep and ageing. This leads to oedema, dark circles and dullness. Succinic acid acts on all three levels simultaneously: improves microcirculation (by reactivating aerobic metabolism in vascular cells), reduces oedema (by limiting anaerobic inflammation and improving ion transport) and brightens the complexion (by eliminating cellular hypoxia, the cause of greyness).
Treatment results
- brighter and more even skin tone,
- reduction of discolouration and skin greyness,
- reduction of oedema, particularly around the eyes,
- reduction of under-eye dark circles,
- marked improvement in hydration and skin turgor,
- improved skin firmness and elasticity,
- smoothing of fine expression wrinkles,
- healthier, more rested appearance,
- protection against oxidative stress and photoageing,
- stimulation of fibroblasts to synthesise collagen and elastin.

FAQ – questions and answers
How does succinic acid differ from vitamins in classic mesotherapy cocktails?
Vitamins act as enzymatic cofactors and antioxidants — they supplement deficiencies and protect cells. Succinic acid works at a deeper level: it is a direct Krebs cycle metabolite and "injects" energy (ATP) directly into mitochondria. The fundamental difference: vitamins are building materials, succinate is fuel.
Why does S-Line Shield work on under-eye dark circles?
Dark circles have various causes — including haemosiderosis (iron deposition after haemoglobin extravasation), microcirculation disorders and tissue hypoxia. Succinic acid addresses the microcirculatory and hypoxic component: it improves aerobic metabolism of vascular cells, reduces congestion and improves venous drainage — thereby reducing circles caused by blood stagnation in vessels.
How many sessions are needed to see results?
First results (brightening, improved hydration, reduced oedema) are visible after 1–2 sessions. Lasting improvement in complexion, dark circle reduction and skin quality improvement are achieved after a full cycle of 4–6 sessions.
Can S-Line Shield be used during dermapen treatment?
Yes — the product is suitable for both needle mesotherapy and microneedling (dermapen). In dermapen applications it is applied as a serum on the skin during the procedure.
Can S-Line Shield be combined with Nithya collagen in the same treatment?
Yes — Nithya products were designed as complementary. S-Line Shield as a hydrating and metabolic cocktail can be used alternately with NITHYA Type I Collagen or Synerlift DMAE & PDRN, depending on patient needs and therapy schedule.
This product may only be used by doctors and cosmetologists trained in aesthetic medicine and holding qualifications to perform injections or mesotherapy procedures. By purchasing this product you confirm that you hold the required professional qualifications.
